SLV that fell into the sea :

The first SLV was launched by the Indian Space Research Organization in 1975. (S.L.V.) was launched. Its purpose was to launch a fixed satellite into a fixed Earth orbit in 1978.


Thus it was announced by Mother Indira Gandhi that India would launch a satellite in 1978. Due to this, Kalam started working hard.


SLV-3, a rocket developed by Kalam's genius, flew majestically towards space on August 10, 1979. But the rocket deviated and crashed into the Bay of Bengal.

Knowing that failure is the stepping stone to success, Kalam worked tirelessly. He launched SLV-3 into space at 8 am in July 1980. SLV-3 successfully operated. It made big news in the dailies of the day and Kalam was highly praised.


With the success of SLV-3, India's prestige in the international space research industry began to rise. Indian Space Research (ISRO) chief personally met Abdul Kalam who was responsible for this success and expressed his appreciation. Kalam also agreed to meet and talk with the then Prime Minister Indira Khan. In 1981, Kalam was awarded Batu Bhushan title.

He went to the Nehru Science Center in Mumbai and completed his SLV. Kalam went on to talk about his project experiences.


At that time, Professor Dhawan, the head of the program, told Kalam on the phone, "Mrs. Indira Gandhi has called you. Please come to Delhi immediately."


Kalam's speech in Parliament :

In 1981, Kalam was invited to speak on SLV-3 at a scientific conference held in Dehradun.


Nuclear scientist Raja Ramanna also attended the meeting. He spoke about India's efforts in nuclear energy.
