kalam's Education

Primary education :

Abdul Kalam's early education began in a simple small school in Rameswaram. The teacher of the school is Sivasubramania Iyer.

When Kalam mentions his primary education, high school education, college education etc., he does not only mention the school education he received.

He also recounts the life lessons he learned from the teachers who taught him in every school. lessons,

Just as Abdul Kalam's father was closely associated with Hindus irrespective of caste and creed, Kalam also associated closely with Hindu students.

Friendship without caste:

During his youth, Kalam was closely associated with Patsi Ramanatha Sastri, the son of Patsi Lakshmana Sastri, the head priest of the Rameswaram temple.

Kalam and Patsi Ramanathan used to sit next to each other on the same bench in primary school. One day when a teacher came to that class and saw Kalam and Patsi Ramanathan together, he got angry and immediately sent Kalam to the last bench.

The way the school teacher behaved left Patsi Ramanathan very angry. Intending to make Abdul Kalam sit by his side as before, he told his father the details of what had happened that evening.

Shastri is not a fan of casteist theories. He realized that the way the teacher had behaved would have greatly upset the boy Kalam.

The next day he went to the school and asked the teacher, "Why are you instilling caste hatred in the minds of these little boys?" Both children sit side by side. If you want to teach, do it. If not, leave Rameswaram and work elsewhere Shastri said angrily.

After that again Kalam sat on the same bench with Patsi Ramanathan and started studying. Their friendship was deeply rooted.

Kalam's childhood friends were Jalaluddin, who was married to Kalam's sister Zohara, and Kalam's half-brother Samsuddin.

Samsuddin was the agent for all the dailies coming to Rameswaram. He inculcated the habit of reading books in Jalaluddin Kalam. He also knows how to read and write English well. Prayer and supplication are one and the same

Jalaluddin and Kalam walk a long way along the coast of Rameswaram Island. At that time, Jalaluddin would tell Kalam about the current affairs and history of the country. Both of them frequent the Ramanathapura Swamy temple circuit.

While studying at school, Samsudeen used to take bundles of newspapers from the shop and distribute kalam to houses and shops in Rameswaram. Kalam's life was in a state of poverty to take care of his father's business.

At an early age, Kalam became fond of the epics of India, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita. He also had a passion for the world-famous Thirukkural.

Once Kalam and Jalaluddin went to the beach. There the sea doves flew away. When Kalam saw them, a trap clicked in his mind. Why can't man fly like this bird? He vowed that one day I would fly in the sky like this bird. That was the foundation of his dream of becoming a pilot.

Higher Education in Ramanathapuram :

He completed his primary education in Rameswaram. High school was not in Rameswaram that day. So you have to go to the nearby Ramanatha Puram. Kalam does not want to leave his family and study in a hostel.

Kalam's mother Ashiamma was sad to part with her beloved son. Seeing this, Kalam's father told him some lines from the poetry of Khalil Gibran. 'Kalam your abode is not this Rameswaram. It is your future" he advised.

Kalam's mother also had some clarity. Kalam went to Ramanathapuram. He did his higher education at Schwartz High School, Ramanathapuram. Ramanathapuram taught Kalam, who had been in Rameswaram till now, new people and their ways of life.

While studying in Ramanathapuram, Kalam was well guided by his teacher Ayyadurai Salomon.

Solomon used to say to Kalam, "Dream of good things. Have faith. Keep trying. Your future will unfold as you expect."

College studies in Trichy :

After completing his high school education, he joined St. Joseph's College, Trichy in 1950 for inter-medium. Kalam

Although it was a Christian college, all the staff were Brahmins. So this college is jokingly called "St. Brahmin's College".

Kalam studied English language literature here and wrote poetry.

He also learned about the literature of Tolstoy, Scott and Hardy. He had an interest in astronomy and read books on astronomy, planets and spaceships.

After completing Intermediate with the warmth of teachers B.Sc. Kalam graduated. He was interested in physics and wanted to study engineering.

Technical education at MIT, Chennai :

M. in Chrompet, Chennai. I. D. Kalam applied for technical education in Got the place. But he didn't have the money to attend MIT. Realizing Kalam's talent and passion, his sister Johara helped him by pledging her gold chain and bangles.

Kalam vowed to study well and earn more and repay the help his sister had given him. He chose aeronautical engineering as his favorite course of study and graduated. Apart from getting his degree, Kalam also excelled in his project work!

Project work done in two days

During his third year at MIT, Kalam was given a project assignment by the professor. Knowing that the work would be delayed, Professor Kalam said, "I will give you three days' time. The work should be completed by then. Failure to do so will stop the financial assistance provided by the government," he said.

Hearing this, Kalam's heart started to feel heavy. Because his education depended on this grant money. He was very disturbed by this.

Perplexed as to where it would happen, Kalam completed the project in two days, day and night, earning the praise of the professor.

Kalam had a dream :

During Kalam's time at MIT, there were two airplanes for student training. Even after all the students complete their training and go to the hostel, only Kalam touches those planes and dreams about his future flying!
